The existing library had a number of problems. The layout had become inefficient, certain areas were crowded, while others were underutilized, sub-departments were not reflective of demand, librarian sight lines were not suitable, finishes, shelving and lighting were problematic, and staff work areas were cramped. The new design for the library corrected the above problems without expansion. The resultant of the work increased circulation of materials by over 40% and greatly increased public in library use and staff productivity.
