Woodburn Public Carnegie Library

Woodburn, Oregon

The Woodburn Carnegie Library was constructed in 1914 with funding assistance from the Carnegie Foundation. The building was designed by Ernest Kroner, Architect. The library has been in continuous library use since its construction. In 1978 the library constructed a major addition to the building. While the addition is situated behind the original Carnegie structure, it serves as the primary entry and collection repository. The original building is utilized for meetings and ancillary space, but retains much of its historic integrity including the brick and ornamental metal exterior, plaster and stained woodwork interior. Ongoing rehabilitation seeks to preserve the building for future generations of patrons.

The firm provided detailed rehabilitation design for the exterior of the historic library building,, and its site. Work included initial analysis and recommendations for rehabilitation work for the library. Subsequent work included repair and restoration of the entire exterior including masonry, woodwork, ornamental metal, and new copper roofing and drainage systems, and sitework improvements.
