Union Station

Portland, Oregon

The Union Station, built in 1896, is one of the last remaining turn of the century railroad depots built in the Richardsonian style. The building has had various alterations since originally built including a major interior remodeling by A.E. Doyle in 1930. The complex is now an important component for Portland’s new River District neighborhood, and a renewed anchor for transportation.

Union Station has been a focus of the firm’s attention since developing a predesign report in 1988. The numerous projects since that time have included exterior improvements and restoration to the masonry, wood work, metal shingle roofing, lighting, awnings, painting, and grounds. Interior work has included signage design, ticketing window revisions, lobby ceiling restoration, painting, revised restrooms, period lighting design, a renovated newsmart, and a new first class passenger lounge.
