Stiff Residence
Salem, Oregon
The house was built in 1928 Hubert and Rose Stiff, as their personal residence. The State of Oregon purchased the property in 1966 for use as the Salem family residence of Governor Tom McCall. The house was the later family residence of Governor Vic Atiyeh. The residence backs onto the Capitol Mall extension and now forms part of a cluster of relocated historic residential buildings in public use.
The house had settled substantially from the flood waters in 1996. In addition, exterior elements and the roof were deteriorated. The project entailed preservation and repairs to the structure to lift, level and stabilize the foundation and framing,, to provide new roofing and weather protection, and to develop solutions to meet current seismic design standards at the roof.
