Justice Building

Capitol Mall, Salem, Oregon

The Justice Building was designed in the Neo-Classic Revival style by Knighton and Howell in 1929 as a state office building. The five story building with basement is clad with cream colored glazed terra cotta. The project included a thorough investigation, identification and analysis of exterior envelope problems. Rehabilitation work included repointing, joint repairs, flashing design modifications and repairs, new joint seals, crack repair, and terra cotta patching. A portion of the cornice where the anchorage was severely deteriorated, was removed, new anchorage installed and the original terra cotta units were then reinstalled. The entire building was cleaned after the repairs. The project also included site repairs and cleaning of hard surfaced areas.
