Wasco County Courthouse

The Dalles, Oregon

The Wasco County Courthouse is a Classic Revival public building design of 1913. The building is a monumental structure clad with blond brick, terra cotta and granite. Originally two stories, two additional lower levels have been developed. The courthouse contains court functions, legal offices, county departments and a jail. The project developed new elevator access to all four levels, and a new grade level main entry. The new elevator is used by the public, and through security measures, for inmate transfer. The project also provided a handicap accessible exercise yard and new site planning.

A new classic design that is compatible with the original building was employed for the exterior addition-building link. The design allows future construction to connect to the original courthouse wit h minimal revisions. Brick, terra cotta and granite all matching the courthouse were used on the exterior of the addition. On the interior terrazzo, marble, and oak match the original interior finishes.
