Carnegie Center Oregon City
Oregon City, Oregon
The historic 1913 Carnegie Library Building currently is used for a community art center and children’s museum. The building’s primary entry and portico had been removed in the 1970’s when a contemporary entry design was installed. The building, although largely intact, had never received a comprehensive rehabilitation.
The project for the firm entailed researching and developing drawings to recreate the original entry, its portico and masonry details. In addition, the interior vestibule was to be replaced. The resulting design successfully recreated the entry features while incorporating new requirements. The new interior vestibule is similar to the original, but the sympathetic redesign resolves weather and programmatic concerns. The firm also provided overall historic consultation for the building’s rehabilitation and seismic upgrade.
